Sock of the Month Club - The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

sock of the month Club - The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

How many times have you bought new socks and wished you had more? That’s why the idea of sock subscriptions is so appealing – you can get a great pair of socks delivered to your door each month, without ever having to go shopping. sock of the month Club claims to be able to deliver great pairs of socks every month, in all kinds of styles and colors to fit any taste or preference, but do they really live up to their promise? Let’s take a look at this subscription service and find out if it’s worth your money.

What is a sock of the month club?

Sock subscriptions are a bit different than most monthly subscription boxes. Each month, your sock of the month club will deliver you anywhere from 3 to 5 pairs of socks to your door. All you have to do is choose how many months you want in advance and fill out an easy questionnaire asking what style and color you’d like each month. You get to choose if you want fashion or athletic socks or if they should be just plain white or black (but hopefully not both). Then, sit back and wait for each delivery. Most clubs don’t require any long-term commitments; however some will only send monthly packages unless you sign up for a year at a time.

My experience with The Walking Company (spoiler alert - it wasn't good)

As I mentioned before, I'm an avid walker. When I found out about sock of the month clubs through a Google search on Best Socks to Walk in, one company really jumped out at me - The Walking Company. There's a store near me so I figured it was worth checking out for myself. As soon as I walked into their store (which you can tell right away was designed by someone who doesn't work in retail) there were groups of salespeople ready to greet me and get me fitted for shoes that would match my sock preferences.

Pros of sock subscription services

Sock subscription services are a great way to stay stocked up on summer sandals or winter slippers. Many come with free returns if you’re not happy with your purchase or even exchanges if you find out that you love another pair more than what was sent to you in your monthly selection. This is a great option for hard-to-shop-for people as well! Socks aren’t usually what pop into mind when I’m thinking about gift ideas for someone, but sock subscription services make it easy to send out fun pairs at regular intervals that recipients will actually wear without having to think about it.

Cons of sock subscription services

The major drawback to sock subscription services is that they come with a monthly fee. Every month you're going to be charged for your service and have to receive yet another package in your mailbox. Some people may not mind paying money each month to get more socks, but others may find it a little expensive. Also if you don't like a certain design you are pretty much stuck with it unless you go into your account settings on their website or call them up directly. This goes for any subscription service though so it's not really that big of an issue.

A Realistic Expectation

SoCal Subscription Co. has raised a lot of eyebrows since it opened in 2015 with some dubbing it the Netflix for socks or the Dollar Shave Club for your feet. While these descriptions aren’t necessarily inaccurate, they are a bit misleading. Yes, you can get two pairs of high-quality socks delivered to your door each month; however, unlike Netflix or Dollar Shave club's outright dismissal of its competition (because they really didn't have any), SoCal is completely aware that there are several other sock clubs on the market. In fact, that's why they've done everything in their power to set themselves apart from those others by providing an unmatched customer experience and killer product.
