What Your Tie Says About You, According to Your Socks

What if your socks could tell you what kind of person you are? This week’s sock of the month, The Philosockphy Sock, claims to be able to do just that. It made me think about what my shoes say about me and what I might learn if I listen to my own socks. If your tie says something similar, take note: here are some of the things my shoes and socks tell me about myself.

How you tie your tie can say a lot about your personality

Ties are a staple in any man's wardrobe and help complement the rest of your outfit. But your tie can say a lot more about you than just what color you're wearing. There are four different knots that men most commonly use when tying their ties: the four-in-hand knot, the half-Windsor knot, the Windsor knot, and the double Windsor knot.
The four-in-hand is most popular among younger men who want to look casual but still professional; it's also easier to tie this style of knot quickly which makes it perfect for last minute meetings or if you're running late. The Half Windsor is slightly less formal and looks best with a shirt and suit jacket.

Different necktie knots mean different things

If you're still in need of gift ideas for dad or grad, here's a fun and practical suggestion- socks! There are so many different socks to choose from that it can be difficult to know where to start. The colorways and patterns available for men are plentiful and it can be hard to decide which ones best reflect the personality of the recipient. If you're looking for something more personal than just picking out a random pair from the local department store then you should consider checking out some of the sock subscription clubs on the market.
Knots are one way that you can tell what type of person someone is by their tie.

Where you put your tie knot also counts

For some men and women, it's not just the tie that makes a statement. Where you put your tie knot also matters! If you're wearing a skinny tie, then you want to put the knot up higher on your neck so that it doesn't dip into the collar of your shirt. On the other hand, if you're wearing a wide tie with a short tail, then tucking it in can be more appropriate.

The position of your watch says something about you

A watch is a reflection of what you value most. Are you the type of person who wants to know the time down to the second? Do you want a watch that can withstand anything and everything thrown at it? Or do you prefer something more elegant and delicate? The position of your watch on your wrist says something about how you want people to perceive you.

Same with cufflinks

Men's dress socks are an underrated fashion accessory that can take a suit from drab to dapper. Plus, they're far less expensive than dress shoes, and you can wear them with any color palette. If you want to add some personality to your outfit without spending a lot of money or having the hassle of dressing up in dress shoes and tie every day, a pair of brightly colored socks is the perfect accessory. But what sock says the most about you?
The first thing that comes to mind is what type of sock: ankle or crew. ankle socks are more popular because they're easier to wear when in sneakers or loafers whereas crew socks are better suited for formal occasions such as weddings or funerals.

Different socks styles are created to make a certain statement too

Different styles of socks are created with a certain statement in mind. For example, mens colorful socks were created with the intent of making a bold statement while also being comfy and fun. Fun men's ankle socks are meant to be more casual and comfortable while also being playful too. Some socks are even made for specific purposes like mens purple ankle socks which are meant for formal occasions. There is truly something for everyone when it comes to sock selection!

How you wear them says something even before you step into the room.

It's not just your shoes that make a statement. Your socks do too! Think about it. There are plenty of times when you wear socks with shoes but not necessarily with trousers (or shorts for that matter). If you're wearing dress socks and no shoes at all, who cares what they say? And if you're wearing dress shoes and no socks at all - well, in the time it takes to cross a room without looking like an idiot, someone has looked down and judged you. But if you're wearing sensible pants and casual shoes? That's when your colourful ankle or fun dress socks really come into play!
Let's face it: what we do with our feet says something about us before we even open our mouth.
