Where are all of my socks?

One of the most frustrating parts about wearing socks is when they go missing. It's like they don't want to be there. And while it may seem like a basic thing to deal with, it can get annoying when you're constantly having to buy new pairs of socks. That's why some people prefer to wear shoes without them and just deal with the sweatier feet! But what if there was a way to stop socks from disappearing? And what if that solution was as simple as getting more socks?
There are many reasons why socks go missing but one of the biggest reasons is that they are either not properly matching or not being washed together.

Lint is a culprit

Lint is an insidious creature. It lurks around, waiting to find its next victim. You see it creeping out of a sock and you think no problem, just wash it. But then that lint has multiplied exponentially and you have a pile of lint-covered socks. Who's to blame? You are! The best way to keep those lints away is by wearing dress socks instead of ankle socks (or at least using the dress socks for around the house). Your feet will be happier because you won't have as much time on them, and so will your wallet because you'll need fewer pairs of socks. If you're looking for some new pairs that are fancy but functional, check out LINT from our friends at The Sock Drawer.

What causes lint?

If you're like most people, you don't give much thought to lint. But if you're someone with allergies or asthma, it's important to know what causes lint. Turns out, there are a few different factors that determine how much lint gets left behind after washing clothes. First and foremost, it comes down to fabric type--cotton fibres produce more lint than polyester or acrylics. That's because cotton is a natural fibre that has no elasticity and tends to shed tiny fibres when worn or washed. But even if the fabric is made of cotton, there are still other factors that come into play.

How to prevent lint from ruining your clothing

It's inevitable. That white fuzz that appears on clothes when they go into the dryer. It's a bit of a mystery, but scientists believe it is caused by static electricity. Luckily, there are some things you can do to keep lint from ruining your clothing!
1) Wash clothes separately. The more fabrics you put together, the more static electricity is created and lint will cling to all of them. 2) Use less detergent and fabric softener. Again, these create static electricity and make lint cling to clothes easier as well. 3) Use an anti-static agent like woolite or downy fabric conditioner in each load of wash if possible - these reduce static electricity which is what causes lint to stick to clothing so easily!
