The Power of the Sock: What Your Tie Says About You, According to Socks

You may not think of your tie as an extension of yourself – but it really is! It’s just like your online presence; you don’t really think about what your social media profile looks like, but it does say something about you. The same applies to ties, which you wear every day in the workplace or on a night out with friends and family alike. For that reason, I thought it would be interesting to see what socks have to say about the tie we wear...after all, they’re basically the same thing!

What does your tie say about you?

Based on research from a sock company, every men’s tie tells a different story. They reveal what you're good at and which life experiences have defined you—everything from where you grew up and how many siblings you have to your political affiliations. So next time you look in your closet for an outfit for work or a date, think about whether it matches with what your socks say about you. Because no matter what happens in life or at work that day—whether it's something exciting or even something disappointing—there's one thing that will never change: we all need clean socks. It’s as universal as tying our shoes; after all, we all wear them—and we all know exactly what they say about us.

How do you dress?

Choose your socks based on how you typically dress—the color will set a certain tone for your outfit. If you wear formal attire all day long, consider wearing bold or patterned socks that pair well with traditional suit colors (like navy blue and gray). But if you usually work in jeans and a T-shirt, it’s fine to keep it relaxed—plaids and stripes will fit right in. At Philosockphy we believe there is no hard or fast rule about what kind of tie should be worn with which kind of sock. Consider our suggestions but ultimately always wear what you feel best in!

Do you know what people are saying about you?

Studies have shown that men who wear formal socks are more likely to achieve success in business, but do you know what people are saying about you? Do you know whether or not your socks speak for you? Sure, your socks may not say anything about who you are on a first meeting (at least most of them don’t), but if someone digs deep enough into your sock drawer they’ll find plenty of great clues.
