The Best Sock Subscriptions for Sock Lovers

The Best Sock Subscriptions for Sock Lovers

The sock subscription craze has officially gone mainstream, with new companies popping up every month to fill the demand. Finding the right sock subscription, however, can be tricky. For one thing, you’ll want something that works for your lifestyle—some offer monthly shipments and others are designed to be given as gifts, but there are also subscriptions that let you skip months when you don’t need any socks. Other factors to consider include price, quality of materials, and style variety.

Option 1: Surrender To the Luxury of Sock Bunching

Philosockphy is a self-described handmade sock club that sends an assortment of themed, handcrafted socks right to your door every month. Each month you receive three pairs of artisanal, classic men’s sock designs (think argyle, cable knit, and herringbone) handpicked by Philosockphy founder Nick Pittman. The subscription service was started in 2012 and it has grown dramatically since then — today you can subscribe to be sent socks from anywhere in America or around the world with subscriptions available both on its website and through platforms like Etsy.

Option 2: Order Every Style, Size, & Color Offered By Simple Wishes

Believe it or not, a subscription service exists to send you every color, style, and size of socks you could ever imagine. That’s right—with as little as one order a month, Simple Wishes will send you anywhere from two to 10 pairs of awesome socks (made by some of your favorite brands like Darn Tough, Icebreaker, and Smartwool). If we've learned anything from personal experience with subscription services like clothing boxes and beauty boxes, having a surprise in your mailbox that has been picked just for you is pretty much every kid's (and grown-up kid's) dream come true. And when something ships at least once per month that makes getting dressed in the morning more exciting? We're sold. $24/month plus shipping.

Option 3: Ask For a Matching Pair of Snazzy New Hosiery as a Gift

If you’re one of those people who absolutely loves receiving gifts (you know, like socks), but has a hard time coming up with new and creative ideas to ask for from your family, friends, and even significant other, you’re going to love The Holiday List. This nifty tool helps you get out of a sticky situation by curating presents that are anything but boring. The Holiday List can do all of that—and more! Whether it’s your birthday or an anniversary, Christmas or Hanukkah, March Madness or Back-to-School Season, simply enter your loved one’s name and their age group into The Holiday List and watch as it magically delivers gift suggestions (using machine learning) directly to your computer screen.

Option 4: Buy Your Own Sorting System

if you’re not a die-hard sock fanatic and simply want to keep your socks in a neat pile, there are great tools out there that can help. One of my favorites is called OXO’s Sock Caddy (Amazon, $20). It sits at your feet while you wear socks so they always stay in place; when it’s time to wash them, move them into a laundry basket or dryer bag. If you’re just looking for something to store them between washes (and have room in your drawer), I suggest these simple containers ($5 each) from Sterilite—they come with lids and separators, so you can sort by style or size and keep pairs together. Finally, if you really don’t like sorting your own socks but do like cute things on display, check out some of these fun sock holders! They’re super cheap (under $10) and can be customized to fit any space.

Option 5: Turn Over Management to an Expert

If you really want to try a subscription service, but don’t want to lose sleep over it, consider a startup like Philosockphy. This new company is helmed by former CEO of American Crew/president of Sigma Beauty Tom Gallagher. If he can run two billion-dollar brands and have time left over to create Philosockphy (which already has thousands of customers), maybe you shouldn’t be sweating about your personal care products. With different plans at different price points, Philosockphy offers something for every budget—but you may find yourself wanting to splurge on that extra percentage off your shaving cream every month...after all, you’re worth it!
