The 5 Worst Things To Wear With Socks of the Month

Starting a sock of the month subscription is the coolest way to start your day and get excited about clothes. But, it can be hard to make sure you’re putting together an outfit that’s going to work with all your unique socks! In this article, we break down 5 of the worst things to wear with socks of the month and why you should avoid them at all costs!

1) Don’t wear them with sandals

There’s nothing wrong with socks in sandals (except they’re a bit weird). But wearing socks with sandals is a very bad idea if you happen to receive cool socks in your sock subscription box. Nothing will make you look more ridiculous than pairing awesome ankle-high socks with your cheapie flip-flops. If you want to wear them, I recommend bare feet or shoes that don’t touch your ankles.

2) Don’t wear them with flip flops

Whether you like them or not, socks are a part of your attire. Even though they’re certainly less obnoxious than many other fashions (see: hats), wearing socks with shoes is totally socially acceptable. Wearing socks with flip flops, on the other hand, is definitely not. Of course, you can wear whatever you want—but it’s worth noting that certain types of clothing don’t really mix well with others. For example, business suits look a lot better when paired with dress shoes and quality socks instead of worn-out flip flops—and saying so doesn’t make us haters. It just makes us fashion experts who know how to keep cool socks fresh and stylish. And also totally awesome.

3) Don’t wear them with sneakers

A sock subscription is a great gift idea and a perfect excuse to switch up your style, but there are some mistakes you should avoid if you want to look good. Wearing socks of the month with sneakers is one of them. Opt for loafers or oxfords instead – those will help make your unique style statement look just that much more amazing. If you really must wear socks and sneakers, choose a pair that are on trend and match each other nicely; such as v-neck sweater and short trousers (or cargo pants). The socks should be in harmony with what’s happening around them – they don’t have to steal attention away from everything else, they should add character to what’s already there.

4) Avoid wearing them with shorts

Yes, you have a new pair of cool socks. Yes, they’re thick and comfy and make your feet feel good. But wearing these great socks with shorts is not an option—you will look ridiculous! You don’t have to wear long pants with your sock subscription; in fact, you can rock just about any pants you like as long as they’re dark in color (to conceal all dirt) and fit properly. Just make sure that they are made out of fabric that doesn’t catch on or snag your fine weave.

5) Don’t wear socks that are too large

It might seem counterintuitive, but wearing socks that are too large is one of the worst things you can do with a pair of socks-of-the-month. If your socks are too big, it’s going to rub up against your legs and make your skin irritated. A great pair of socks for any month has to be form fitting—it should hug your ankles without bunching or leaving any gaps. You’ll want to choose a sock that fits snugly in order to give you maximum comfort and health benefits. If you feel like they aren’t tight enough, they probably aren’t a good choice.
