You can start by matching one
This week, we're going to take a look at how to match your socks with your tie. First, let's start with colour. The easiest way is to choose a sock and tie that are complementary colours. For example, if you have a light blue sock, pair it with an orange or yellow tie. If you have an orange or yellow sock, try pairing them with navy blue or green ties respectively. If you want something more daring, try choosing two different colours from opposite ends of the spectrum like red and purple for example. Red would match well with navy blue and purple could go nicely with yellow for instance.
Then you can add in some contrast
A tie is an essential piece for dressing up your outfit. But, sometimes it can be difficult to find one that goes with your style. That's why we've created a sock subscription that lets you match your socks with the tie you want to wear! Here's how:
- Think about what color scheme you want for your socks and ties. For example, if you are going for bold colors, choose from our reds, yellows and oranges. If you're trying to mix things up, go for one of our more pastel options like purple or blue. You could also mix it up by choosing different color schemes in each box!
- Experiment with styles such as argyles, stripes or solids.
But what about when you have no choice but to wear all black?
Don’t worry, matching your socks with your tie doesn’t have to be difficult. If you find yourself in a pinch and need some help, try these tips:
1) If you have dark colored socks, try pairing them with a light colored tie. For example, brown or black socks can be matched with an orange or yellow tie. The same can be done if you have light colored socks and are looking for something dark; just swap out your orange or yellow ties for brown or black ones.
2) Avoid matching colors on opposite sides of the color wheel as they will create an uncomfortable contrast. For example, reds should not be paired with blues and greens should not be paired with purples.
But remember, opposites don’t always attract!
You might have heard this before, but opposites don’t always attract! And when it comes to matching your socks with your tie, that couldn’t be truer. You want to avoid dressing in two colors that are on opposite ends of the color wheel, like red and green. But there are other ways you can mix up your sock and tie combinations without going too far out of bounds. One way is by pairing patterns, like stripes with polka dots or argyles with plaids. Another is by mixing up textures, such as pairing cotton socks with woolen tights or silk ties with cashmere scarves.
