When did you start your own business?

What are your credentials?

I am a former professional ballroom dancer, who still competes internationally. I have a Masters in English and have been writing for over 10 years. My blog is about my life as an athlete and fashionista!
I'm lucky enough to be married to a professional dancer as well, so we never stop moving. We love to shop for high-end designer items that can't be found in mainstream stores. And because we are always on the go, I always bring my best crew socks with me wherever I go to make sure my feet stay healthy and happy from all that walking around (and dancing!).

How do you find clients?

There are a lot of ways to find clients. The simplest is to take a look at your surroundings and think about what might be missing. You can also do some research and see what other people are doing in your industry. Taking a course that teaches you how to run a business would also be helpful, as it will give you an idea of what it takes to get started. There are many resources online that can help you get started or find more information as well, such as Entrepreneur Magazine or AngelList.

How have your parents responded to this new career path?

My parents were a little worried at first when I told them that I wanted to leave my job. But, after seeing how happy and excited I am about it, they've been really supportive. They are really proud of me for following my dreams and not giving up so easily on something I'm passionate about. And, since it's just a few months until New Year's Eve, they're excited to see what other opportunities will come from this new blog in the coming year.

What inspires you when designing new collections?

Inspiration comes from all over. I love to travel and experience new cultures, which is a huge inspiration. Sometimes I'll see an object or design that I think would be perfect for our product line. Other times, one of my team members will tell me about a project they're working on that could use some more creative support, and we'll brainstorm together how to make it even better. We also have a blog where we post about cool things happening in the world and invite readers to share their thoughts on those topics as well.
